Term One Eliza

Eliza flinches at the loud shriek from her roommate, but then offers a kind smile.

"Hi," Eliza replies at a normal volume after the girl removes her earbuds. "I'm Eliza and I guess we're roomies. Your surf board is cool, are you from the ocean?"

"Only in a magazine," Eliza admits to her new roommate. "There was a photo exhibit in World Traveler, it looked beautiful. I'm from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh, the only open water we have is a frozen lake--" Eliza stops herself from rambling. "I like to ice skate and take photos. Hey, you and your uh... fish look really conformable together. Have you been together long?"

Seeing the small Mudkid roaming free range of their dorm (more like small apartment! The space totally knocked Eliza's expectations out f the water.), she thought her own partner might like the same freedom. Eliza pulled the cold Pokeball from her belt and released the arctic mammal into the room. The air cooled down and Seel happily barked a greeting at his trainer.

"I received Seel," Eliza answered fallowing Amelia into the kitchen with Seel at her heels. "I guess it makes since, I like the cold." Eliza offered with a chuckle. She took stock of the empty kitchen and agreed they needed some food. Eliza was curious about the town too, plus it would be a good chance to better know her roommate. "Let me unpack a few things and we can head out."

About an hour later and Eliza was happy with her room. If Amelia's was warm and tropical with its brightly colored flowers, Eliza's was cool and sleek with the icy blue bed sheets, fluffy white pillows and crystal fairy lights creating a canopy above the bed and around her desk. Seel, who she had decided to call Pepper from his pepper corn black nose, had laid on her freshly maid bed while Eliza filled her closet with sweaters, leggings and coats. The native-Shinnohian girl made a note to pick up some lighter clothing options. She switched her backpack for a smaller over the shoulder purse, placed her Pokedex inside, scooped Pepper off the bed and met Amelia inside their living room.

"Already to go," she smiled.

"So, what classes are you taking this first term?" Eliza asked while they walked toward the town. "Do you know what school your hoping to get in to?"

Almost forgetting the main use for a Pokedex, Eliza quickly scans the Mudkip and her Seel. A soft beep indicates that their data was collected and stored. Eliza nods as Amelia lists her classes, they would have basic fighting together so that was nice. When her roommate drawls the water from her bottle the color drains from Eliza's face.

In Snowpoint no one saw abilities, most citizens believed they had been bread out from the human genes. They were markers for evil, people who had them use them for their personal gain. Like the butcher in '84. Being just three feet from at the actual act it made Eliza's stomach twist.

She gulped down, Pull your self together, Eliza commanded of herself. If her roommate knew she was scared of her then this year was not going to go well. It was just water multiplication, what could go wrong--- water filling her lungs while she drank, water filling the shower and drowning her all the while the blue haired girl laughed evilly. Her mudkip too.

"Traditional!" Eliza suddenly shouts, breaking her internal (and uncalled for) terror. "I really like traditional food, my Grandma would always cook food from our ancestors. But snack wise I like gummy candies."

Eliza picks ups Pepper as a way to silence her rambling and continued to follow Amelia down the Ragnarock Streets.

Eliza watches the battle with awe. The fierce competitor demanding the crowd's attention reminded her of her older sister while she was in the rink. The small boy getting knocked down reminded Eliza of, well, more of herself. It wasn't fair that this upperclassman was tormenting the younger class just because he could. Eliza quickly snapped a photo of the bully and his Pokemon.

Eliza waved awkwardly after Amelia gave their introductions.

"Is everyone here an ass like that?" Eliza asked.

"Maybe when we get back from town we could have some practice battles?" Eliza suggested nervously to her two companions. She didn't want her first battle to be on a stage. In front of everyone. No, she defiantly needed a practice run. Maybe two.

Stopping at various booths, Eliza picked up some snacks and more heartier foods for her and Amelia's room, a few fish shaped treats for Pepper, a tube of blue paint, and a braided purple and gold wrist lanyard for her Pokedex. She enjoyed the company of Amelia and Cole, her loud energy compared to his calm state.

They grabbed their coupons and approached the massive building.

"Wonder what they sell in here?"

"I hope I won't need any," Eliza chuckles at the man selling the weapons. "I just wasn't expecting a school to sell swords and uh... maces?" She and the man exchange a few more words before Eliza hussels down the the sidewalk to catch up with Amelia and Cole.

"Doubtful," Eliza smiles at Amelia while they toss soda and snacks into their shared cart. "I'm sure you already have years of experience over of me. I promise I won't be too much of a cake walk."

Finding Cole at the magazine and book stand, Eliza stopped to peer over his shoulder. "Is that the college paper?" she asks.

"I wouldn't want to get on his bad side," Eliza notes to Cole, and grabs a copy of the paper for herself. She'd do some research on her new classmates later.

Eliza wiggles though the crowd to get a better look at the dancer and their pokemon. There was a lot of skill involved in their movements and the need to be back on the ice burned though Eliza. Maybe in the winter there would be a rink set up. Or maybe a pond would freeze over enough. After snapping a few quick photos, Eliza rejoined Amelia on the other side of the crowd.

"Sure," Eliza shrugs at the thought of the Voodoo shop. "Are you looking for anything in particular?"

Eliza stays a space behind Amelia, giving her the option of talking first. Eliza didn't need anything here, after all. She eyed the man behind the counter carefully however. She though his contact lenses were a little cheesy, but she didn't deny the way that they, along with the darkness of the store, made the hair on the back of her neck stand up. She absently placed a hand closer to Pepper's ball, not quite sure what the Seel was capable but feeling safer knowing he was with her.

This was not at all what she had imagined. With her grandmother living with them, Eliza's home had been full of interesting things. Wooden totem carvings, ancient stone staffs, paintings of creatures Eliza couldn't place and items taken off the mountain. In this shop, Eliza was pretty sure she saw a skull and petrified wing under the display case.
